The following is an episode list for the Canadian drama Heartland. The program premiered on October 14, 2007 in Canada on CBC Television and currently airs on CBC on Sunday nights at 7:00 pm (7:30 pm in Newfoundland). It also airs in the USA on GMC, now called UP, on Wednesday evenings at 9:00 pm (Eastern). Heartland is loosely based on the novel series written by Lauren Brooke and focuses on a young girl, Amy, who's inherited her mother's gift of being able to heal abused/neglected horses after a tragic accident that leads to big changes in everyone's lives. The series was renewed for an eighth season, which premiered on Sunday, September 28, 2014, and has recently been renewed for a 9th season that will premier in the fall of 2015. As of March 22, 2015 138 episodes of Heartland have aired, making it the longest-running one-hour scripted drama in the history of Canadian television, surpassing the 124 episodes of Street Legal on October 18, 2014. Pegasus is depressed because of Marion's death. 4 "Taking Chances" Leila Basen and David Preston Steve DiMarco November 4, 2007 ( 104 When Amy and Lou empty their mother’s room, they find a letter dated seven years earlier from their father. A new guy, Ben, is sent to Heartland by his aunt, Lisa Stillman, and nobody likes him, especially Ty, who gets really angry when he pushes his horse too far. Amy gets knocked off her horse while trying to take Ben’s horse across the river. Ty is offered a job at Briar Ridge even after Amy accidentally tells Ashley that Ty is on probation. Mallory takes steps to ensure that her favorite horse Copper won't be sold, discovering in the process that an unscrupulous ranch hand has plans to sell a herd of wild mustangs to a slaughterhouse. 11 "Thicker Than Water" Leila Basen & David Preston Ron Murphy February 10, 2008 ( 111 When Amy invites Tim up to the ranch, Lou tries to impress their stranged father, not wanting to admit to him her fear of horses which stems from having witnessed his long-ago accident at the Calgary Stampede. Jack escapes from the family reunion by going on a second date with Lisa. Ty practices his cattle skills. Lou blows up at Tim. 12 "Rising From Ashes" Heather Conkie Don McBrearty February 17, 2008 ( 112 A sudden yet deliberate barn fire puts Jack in hospital and Heartland in financial straits, just as Lou was preparing to return to her old life in New York. With her school work struggling and joining a showjumping circuit which means shows every weekend, Amy can't do everything. Meanwhile, Lou is searching for Dude ranch horses and going through disagreements with her Father. 17 "Dancing in the Dark" Heather Conkie Ron Murphy October 26, 2008 ( 204 Lou and Scott's romantic weekend plans are interrupted by the early arrival of the dude ranch's first customers: a travel-blogging couple, named Marley and Shaun, whom Lou must bend over backwards to please. While on a cattle drive, Amy and Ty talk for the first time about his absence. Amy and Ty and Jack and Lisa kiss . Tim buys a ranch. Caleb and Ty get in a fight. Mallory has to deal with Jake. 18 "Corporate Cowgirls" Heather Conkie Tim Southam November 2, 2008 ( 205 Lou puts a brave face on lingering insecurities when former coworkers from the high-powered career she gave up become customers at her corporate equine retreat. Caleb bails on leading the trail ride, and Amy helps Lou, despite her planned dinner with Ty, and takes Copper, despite Mallory's protests. When Amy is gone, Mallory decides to take Spartan on a ride, but loses him for a few minutes and finds him eating poisoned grass, and Ty has to save his life before Amy gets back. One of Lou's friends kisses Tim, and she gets mad. 19 "Holding Fast" Susin Nielsen Tim Southam November 9, 2008 ( 206 Out for a ride along the river, Amy comes across an RCMP officer desperately trying to save a young boy from drowning. She tries to help his horse, who will no longer go by water, and she ends up helping both the horse and the RCMP officer. Lou is trying to figure out her relationship with Scott. Lisa is avoiding Jack, who thinks she is going to dump him. Mallory tries to get rid of Jake. 20 "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" Leila Basen and David Preston Steve DiMarco November 16, 2008 ( 207 With the annual Hudson Heritage Rodeo looming, everyone at Heartland gets roped into the action and intrigue of broncs, bulls, beer, beauty queens and belt buckles. Ty signs up last minute for bull riding, and Amy gets mad at him, as she is worried that he would have been hurt. Amy then discovers that Ty is forming a friendship with a girl named Kit. Ashley's horse is sold and Ashley tells Amy that he was the only horse that she had a bond with. 21 "Summer's End" Heather Conkie Don McBrearty November 29, 2008 ( 208 In the middle of a hot season, Ty's father pulls up out of nowhere and saves horses in a cattle truck. Amy is shocked when she finds out that one of the horses is Apollo who belongs to Ashley. Ty's father is up to no good when he asked Ty to live with him. Lou tries to buy the horse from the cattle truck but has to come up with double what they were previously sold for. However Ty's father steals the money and leaves in the middle of the night leaving problems for all. Amy and Ty kiss in the rain.Ty feels conflicted because he really likes Amy but he doesn't want to hurt Kit. Ashley comes to live at Heartland because of problems at home. 22 "Showdown!" Leila Basen and David Preston Sudz Sutherland December 7, 2008 ( 209 There have been some mysterious cattle rustlers roaming about stealing many rancher's cows. Amy gets angry when her father hires Caleb and Ty to watch his cattle, when they should be around the barn getting the extra chores done now that Amy is back at school. Ty seems to be falling into a relationship with Kit. One day, while Amy is out riding, Ty and Caleb finally see the cattle rustlers about to steal Tim's cattle. But it's not just a man to man fight, they are outnumbered and the rustlers have guns. Tim is shot in the shoulder when he jumps in front of Amy to protect her from the gunshot! 23 "True Enough" Heather Conkie Sudz Sutherland January 4, 2009 ( 210 An injured Tim is the source of tension in the Fleming household as Amy deals with her guilty feelings about her involvement in his shooting and Lou must welcome their father's surprise girlfriend Callie, who is staying at the ranch to be with him. Ty is with Kit, and Caleb tells Amy Ty gave her up too easy.Amy and Caleb share a kiss. 24 "Starstruck!" Leila Basen and David Preston Dean Bennett January 11, 2009 ( 211 Hollywood starlet and gossip-rag fodder, Mindy Fanshaw, arrives at Heartland under the pretext of honing her non-existent riding skills in anticipation of an upcoming role. Almost everyone is thrilled at the prospect of having Fanshaw in their midst, but a confidentiality contract signed by all puts a damper on the excitement. Mallory is found to be hiding out in one of the dude ranch cabins, having been aided in her 'escape' from the boarding school by young Jake. Mallory shows herself to be the most star-struck of all by collecting items Mindy has used around Heartland, planning to sell them on eBay so she can repay Jake for the money he spent helping her. Mindy shows she's a manipulator par excellence when she digs into the Ty/Amy/Caleb 'triangle', and attempts to pit the three against each other. When she ropes Caleb into taking her on a trail ride, she insists on riding an ailing Pegasus, ignoring Amy's warning that the horse should not be used. This results in a calculated photo-op for Mindy with the ubiquitous paparazzi, and an injured Pegasus. 25 "Divorce Horse" Heather Conkie Dean Bennett January 18, 2009 ( 212 Lisa meddles in Lou's business and personal life with disastrous results. Mackenzie comes back to Heartland to get married, but when a cursed horse also arrives, the wedding is almost called off. Lisa tries to set Lou up on a blind date. Lou blows up at Lisa. The man Lisa tried to set Lou up with sends her an email, Lou answers it. 26 "Seismic Shifts" Susin Nielsen TW Peacocke February 8, 2009 ( 213 When a big oil company starts doing unwanted exploration on Heartland property, Lou mobilizes the community against them. Mallory gives hints that Ty and Amy are meant for each other. Lou, though still not speaking to Lisa, continues to have online chats with the man Lisa set her up with. Lou agrees to meet him. 27 "Do or Die" Mark Haroun TW Peacocke February 15, 2009 ( 214 Ty's former probation, Clint, officer brings two troubled kids by the ranch, who end up causing lots of grief (for example, burning up a chair). The two kids are going around making trouble, one of the kids (named Badger) doesn't even talk which makes things even harder. Mallory become surprisingly friendly with one of the kids and even converts to a "goth" look. 28 "Dark Horse" Leila Basen and David Preston Dean Bennett March 1, 2009 ( 215 When a county by-law threatens to separate elderly Mrs. Bell from her beloved pony Sugarfoot, Lou revives a defunct charity derby to raise money for their legal defense, in turn reawakening an old rivalry between Tim and Jack as to which one of them actually won the last one. 29 "The Ties That Bind" Penny Gummerson Dean Bennett March 8, 2009 ( 216 Amy resorts to desperate measures when her horse Spartan is mysteriously stolen and reappears legally sold to Wes, the man who set fire to the Heartland barn. In the end Jack and Tim come through and get Spartan back, Ty has to do 200 hours of community service, and Amy is grounded until further notice. Mallory's horse, Copper, is scared of her because of her "goth" look until the end when she ends up taking it all off. 30 "Full Circle" Penny Gummerson Don McBrearty March 15, 2009 ( 217 Hoping to cure the traumatized Spartan who refuses to jump after his recent kidnapping, an equally unsettled Amy takes him to Marion's Native Canadian friend Victor Whitetail who fixes not only horses, but also hearts. Peter books the entire dude ranch in order to spend time alone with Lou, who continues to keep him a secret from her family. Kit gets mad at Ty when he doesn't like her methods for breaking his new horse Harley. When she comes back to apologize Ty says that he just wants to be friends. 31 "Step By Step" Heather Conkie Don McBrearty March 22, 2009 ( 218 Amy and Ty head into the frozen countryside to save a herd of wild horses from starving. Jack is at home with Mallory and Jake because Jake's parents are away. Lou is heading to a spa with Peter until the highway is closed due to weather conditions. Ty gets sick, and no one is able to reach them. Amy and Ty admit they love each other too much to be just friends, and they kiss. Lou brings Peter home to meet Jack. Amy struggles to keep up with the pressure while trying to heal Caesar, the horse she freed from the fence. But is Caesar a horse she cannot heal? Lisa is back from France. Caleb wants his trailer back, but Ashley won't share because she found out that Caleb took money from her mom so he would stay away from Ashley. 33 "Little Secrets" Leila Basen and David Preston Steve DiMarco October 11, 2009 ( 302 Amy finds herself caught in the middle of a family crisis when she tries to help a girl and her horse recover from what appears to be a freak accident. In the process things keep getting worse and Amy finds out what really happened. Meanwhile, Lou is getting fed up with hearing the sob stories that everyone has and hates being a turn between in a family crisis that isn't even her problem. 34 "Man's Best Friend" Heather Conkie Dean Bennett October 18, 2009 ( 303 Jack and Lisa have their first big fight after Lisa tries to persuade Jack to get a new truck, which Jack does not want to do, no matter the circumstances. After fights and misunderstandings, Ty and Amy finally get their act together, and Ty gives Amy a promise ring. That same night, Ashley goes to a prom with a rich frat boy and tries to make Caleb jealous. 35 "The Haunting of Hanley Barn" Mark Haroun Dean Bennett October 25, 2009 ( 304 Something is scaring the horses at night in the Hanley Barn (which is supposed to be haunted) and Amy is called in to investigate. She and Ty spend the night in the barn to try to figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, Badger comes back and falls in love with Mallory, and she completely returns his feelings. 36 "Glory Days" Leila Basen and David Preston Don McBrearty November 1, 2009 ( 305 In the hopes of impressing Ashley, Caleb takes lessons in bulldogging from former rodeo champion Tim, who stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that he may no longer have what it takes. Kit and Ty sort out their lingering break-up issues as Ty assists Scott with the delivery of Kit's mare's foal. Lou invites Peter to manage his business from the Heartland facilities while his office undergoes renovation, and lives to regret it. 37 "Growing Pains" Susin Nielsen Don McBrearty November 8, 2009 ( 306 Ty and Amy clash over how best to raise an orphaned foal. Lou must defuse a potential lawsuit after fending off unwanted advances from an unscrupulous business client. Meanwhile, Val tries to connect with her newly-reconciled daughter Ashley. Throughout the episode, a cougar stalks the Heartland area. 38 "The Starting Gate" David Moses Grant Harvey November 15, 2009 ( 307 When Tim buys a racehorse from Lisa that she has given up on, he puts everything on the line, including Amy, to win big. But Lisa is angry when she finds out that Tim has now convinced Amy to work with him after Amy said she couldn't help Lisa. Amy suggests foul play by Lisa's jockey and makes Lisa even more angry. Jack is stuck in the middle of Lisa and Amy's disagreement. 39 "The Fix" Penny Gummerson Grant Harvey November 22, 2009 ( 308 Tim Fleming has entered the horse he bought from Lisa Stillman in a local race and hires Ty to keep an eye on it at the track. Tim's rivalry with Lisa continues as she has another horse in the race and Jack is caught in the middle. Ty's stepfather Wade tries to work things out with Lily and creates problems for Ty at the Track. 40 "Broken Arrow" Leila Basen and David Preston Ron Murphy December 6, 2009 ( 309 Ty is about to spend his last day at Heartland before leaving for vet school and Amy is wanting some quality time with her boyfriend. But when a horse – wounded by a hunter's arrow – has Scott flying his plane to British Columbia to attend to the animal, Ty tags along for the experience. Only Scott knows that there is a planned surprise party for Ty and that he has got to get them back to the ranch the same evening. Meanwhile, Caleb plans on getting a pay raise from Jack, who has quite a different idea about how to deal with his hired hand, while Val hires Amy to help get Apollo back on the show jumping circuit, causing a bit of friction between the two of them. Lou struggles to find her maternal instincts when Marnie leaves her to look after Jerry Junior. Lou is also concerned that Jerry Junior might not be the only baby in her immediate future. 41 "Eye of the Wolf" Heather Conkie Ron Murphy January 3, 2010 ( 310 Nothing seems to go right when the search begins to find Scott and Ty. With Amy feeling helpless back at Heartland, she decides to lead a search on horseback. Meanwhile, Ty and Scott battle on, but with Scott near death, Ty must help him survive as well as himself with the howl of the wolf every night. 42 "Catch and Release" Mark Haroun TW Peacocke January 10, 2010 ( 311 While the boys head off on a fishing trip, the girls are left back at Heartland to deal with the havoc caused by a dog, a porcupine and a herd of escaped cows. Ty is struggling with dreams about the wolf from his recent plane accident. Jack and Tim have "words" because of something Peter says. 43 "The Reckoning" Penny Gummerson TW Peacocke January 17, 2010 ( 312 Victor Whitetail visits Heartland, leaving Tim to wonder if Victor was more than just friends with his ex-wife. Ty convinces Kit to give her star barrel horse to Amy to fix, but when Amy has to bring Kit into the healing process, Kit decides to put Ty between them. Meanwhile, Lou gets invited to Paris by Peter and she is overjoyed until she learns that the trip is not exactly what she had envisioned. Peter must change his "big plans". 44 "Quarantine" Ken Craw Grant Harvey January 24, 2010 ( 313 When Kit's horse, Daisy, comes down with Strangles while at Heartland, the stables are put under quarantine. Kit refuses to leave Daisy's side. Amy is furious when she finds out that Kit brought Daisy to Heartland almost straight from a rodeo where many other horses had contracted Strangles. When Pegasus catches the disease, it brings mixed feelings for Amy and Tim. Meanwhile, Mallory is trying to convince Jack to drive her to an Art Museum event where she hopes to bump into her former friend, Badger. 45 "The Happy List" Heather Conkie Chris Potter January 31, 2010 ( 314 Relationships clash in "The Happy List". While Amy is upset with Ty for buying a rundown motorcycle, Caleb and Ashley clash over him leaving for a rodeo. Amy is asked by Val to help her get back on her horse and start show jumping again. 46 "Second Chances" Susin Nielsen Dean Bennett March 7, 2010 ( 315 Amy and Ty face a tough moral dilemma when they discover that Mr. Hanley has abandoned his horses and is on the brink of losing his farm. Jack and Lisa's relationship is on the line when Lisa comes back from Europe and feels that there may be something between Jack and Val. Lou is in the middle of wedding plans. Mallory is being extra nice to Lou because Mallory wants to be asked to be one of her brides maids. Jake comes back with a new girlfriend, Chelsea. Mallory continues to text and call Badger. 47 "Spin Out" Leila Basen and David Preston Dean Bennett March 14, 2010 ( 316 Lisa wants to tell Lou and Amy that she and Jack are engaged, but Jack doesn't want to overshadow Lou and Peter's wedding plans by telling them. The Hudson townspeople gossip over Jack and Lisa. After a visit with Val, Lisa begins to have second thoughts. 48 "Ring of Fire" Leila Basen and David Preston Steve DiMarco March 21, 2010 ( 317 When Amy follows in her mother's footsteps and enters into a professional colt starting competition, her gift with horses and her self-confidence are put to the test. At first, Garrett seems to be the best and Amy is struggling. But Garrett encourages her and helps her win. 49 "In The Cards" Heather Conkie Steve DiMarco March 28, 2010 ( 318 A surprise announcement by Peter throws Lou's wedding plans into disarray while Amy and Ty are forced to make difficult decisions about their futures. Amy then gives back their "Promise" ring that Ty gave her, then asks for it back. Caleb wants Ashley to come to some rodeos in the states with him. Lisa is being careful not to interfere with Lou's wedding even when Lou really needs her help, making Lou feel responsible for Lisa and Jack changing their minds on the engagement. All the while Amy treats one of the horses of a ring of fire contestant, which causes mixed feelings. Tagging along with him is another girl, Blair, whose boyfriend had to stay with the broken down truck. Amy is not happy at all, and Ty is completely oblivious to why she is mad after he tells her that he is not interested in her at all. Blair kisses Ty, but he doesn't reciprocate her feelings at all. Ty does not tell Amy however Amy and Ty are still together. In the end, Blair leaves with her boyfriend. 51 "What Dreams May Become" Ken Craw Grant Harvey October 3, 2010 ( 402 Amy scratches the surface to discover Nick Harwell's problems with his polo horse, Dusty. All of the polo horses get sick, so it is up to Ty and Scott to find the problem. Lou's life in Dubai and Tim's relationship with his jockey are not what they appear to be. 52 "Road Curves" Heather Conkie Dean Bennett October 10, 2010 ( 403 Amy is angry when Chase comes back and insists on her putting on a show with him. When he learns of this, Tim convinces the family that they need to take the law into their own hands. But the cattle rescue and subsequent drive has to maneuver a dangerous course when they come face to face with the rustlers who shot Tim two years ago (in episode 22), and Mallory's attempt to be part of the adventure puts her in harm's way. Val's efforts to convince Ashley and Caleb to sign a marriage contract leads to a shocking revelation. They are not legally married. Lou returns home from Dubai, in no mood to answer questions about her marriage or why she isn't with her husband. Caleb receives some sage-like advice from Tim. Mallory's adventure of being locked in the horse trailer and being returned to Heartland by the police is still reverberating. Meanwhile, Lou gets some news that will have a huge impact on her and Peter's lives. 60 "Family Business" Ken Craw Francis Damberger January 9, 2011 ( 411 Still not in the best frame of mind after her recent break up with Ty, Amy fights to keep Lightning Dexter in the family when she learns Tim is putting his horse up for sale in a claiming race, something Janice believes is the "right thing to do". Ty is also struggling with the break-up as well, neglecting his schoolwork to help Caleb hustle money at a pool hall. And of course, Chase Powers gets involved in the Dexter claiming race ordeal and makes things even more awkward between Amy and Ty in the process. Meanwhile, a newly pregnant Lou has a great idea for the baby's nursery that doesn't sit well with Jack. Peter has problems of his own as he tries to conduct his company's business from Heartland. A trophy for "all-round cowboy" won by Tim in Ponoka two decades ago also gets uncovered. Tim's really excited to get it back, but repairs needed to the trophy prompt Caleb to offer to get it fixed. By accepting Caleb's offer, Tim unknowingly sets events in motion that turn very interesting for not only Caleb, but for Ty as well. They go down the road for beer, cards, and gambling. Chase tries to help by giving Rihanna a new bit, but she is too eager to make her dad proud and has an accident. Stuart then decides to sue Heartland for negligence, in which Lou will not stand for. Meanwhile, Jack is trying to persuade Mallory to come back to Heartland and care for Copper. 64 "The River" Leila Basen and David Preston Chris Potter February 27, 2011 ( 415 There is a bear hanging around Heartland and getting into things on the farm. Amy is doing her best to put the whole law suit thing behind her but its just not working, when Ty comes to talk to amy about it she kisses him and Ty kisses back. (Though not back together fully) While Amy is out for a trail ride she runs into the bear and Spartan rears causing Amy to fall and hits her head hard and blacks out. Ty starts to worry and goes out to look for her, while she is out she has a strange dream with her mom as a little girl, he soon finds her and takes her back. Also Lou is feeling that it is the worst possible time to have a baby. Stuart has a revelation when his daughter tells him that it his fault that she doesn't want to ride anymore and that she hates him, in the end he decides not to go through with the law suit. Amy still works with Stuart's daughter and her horse and the training goes really well. When Ty asks Georgie to care for an orphan wolf pup, she sees it as an opportunity to reunite Amy and Ty. Lou is trying to forget that her new husband Peter may not be able to spend Christmas with her due to his father's illness and so she obsesses even more than usual about making everything perfect for a traditional family Christmas. But Lou's plans are altered by an anonymous call about starving and abandoned horses trapped in an avalanche in the remote Rocky Mountain area of Pike River. Amy of course insists that they go and check the situation out. Lou is not happy, but with Amy’s assurance that they'll be back in plenty of time for Christmas, she and Ty head off on the long trek to Pike River. The job however is huge and Jack and Tim end up joining them on their rescue mission. In the process of trying to free the horses, they reunite the town recluse Will Vernon with his estranged daughter Joanna and grandson Sam. Meanwhile, back at Heartland, Mallory's tacky Christmas decorations totally clash with Lou's tasteful and color co-ordinated décor as they anxiously wait for their families to return home. And Caleb and Ashley discover you don’t need expensive gifts to have the perfect Christmas.
